Anticaking Agents

An anticaking agent is a food additive placed in powdered or granulated materials, to prevent the formation of lumps and for easy transport, packaging and consumption, such as table salt. Some normally used anticaking agents are aluminosilicate, sodium ferrocyanide, tricalcium phosphate, sodium silicate, silicon dioxide (E551), calcium silicate (E552) and calcium carbonate. Some foods made of powder and granules have a tendency to absorb water and clump together, such as instant soup, creamer, icing sugar, and table salt.
